It is safe to say that every team in the Major League Baseball world has gotten themselves one, two, or even a few offensive weapons on their offensive roster. Some teams can play good baseball with or without their sluggers, but then their are those teams that you can clearly see how much of an impact the sluggers bring to their team when they stay healthy.
For the New York Yankees who are currently 16-16 on the season have seen how much better their squad play with their two power sluggers are healthy and tearing the cover off the baseball. The 2021 baseball season is now in the second month of playing time and Yankee fans are happy to see their two sluggers play some power baseball.
When the Yanks signed Giancarlo Stanton, they signed a player that was supposed to consistently put the bat on the ball. Since signing onto the pinstriped squad, Stanton has been up and down offensively, along with not being able to stay on the baseball diamond. Since 2021 got underway, the Yankee offensive has struggled, but Stanton has been on a progressive tier in the batter's box.
To put it straight up, the Giancarlo Stanton has given fans a reminder of why he is a member of the Yankee organization.
That's right, he reminds you of the Marlins player that was signed over to the Yanks with 59 home runs under his belt. A healthy Stanton with a proper swing, is a player that is a force to be reckoned with.
According to Mike Lupica of MLB.com:
"He reminds you of a lot of the guy who hit 59 home runs once for the Marlins. In the history of the Yankees, only two players have ever hit more than that in a season. Babe Ruth was one. Roger Maris was the other."
So far the 2021 Yankees have had Stanton put the team on his back for the two months that baseball has been underway this year. As a matter of fact, it is most likely safe to say that Stanton is the very reason why the Yanks reached a 6-11 record and are currently a.500 baseball. Of course, when we talk about this group of guys' success, Stanton isn't the only guy who is carrying this club through this up-and-down stretch.
With Stanton on the offensive power stretch, Gerrit Cole, the $324 million man has been carrying the head of the starting pitching staff. Unfortunately, neither the slugging efforts of Stanton nor the phenom-like pitching efforts by Cole could not get the Yankees a sweeping opportunity over the Houston Astros on Thursday afternoon, even though Cole left with the lead after seven more strong innings. By then, Stanton, after an even bigger game the night before --- had hit his ninth home run.
Simply put, it means that Stanton is hitting the way he did in the postseason of 2020, and that was when he hit six home runs in seven games against the Indians and the Rays and had 13 RBIs in 26 at-bats.
Love or hate Stanton, but whichever you feel, there is no denying that he is a lethal at-bat for opposing pitcher when he is swinging a hot bat.
Yankees fans have also been reminded so far of what the offense can look like when both Stanton and Aaron Judge are healthy. Judge has quietly hit seven home runs so far, and even with the occasional days off for what was described as “lower body soreness", he's actually been on the field for one more game than Stanton has.
When the two are lineup and hitting the baseball using their A-swing, it makes for a strong case for both of them to be among the MVP conversation in 2021.
