The New York Yankees seem to have turned a corner as they have been playing a better brand of baseball lately. Slowly, but surely, the team is getting their parts to click on all cylinders. The offense seems to be coming around, as there have been more and more timely hits and beyond that, the starting staff has been trending upward.
Since the season has gotten underway, the Yankee universe has been witnesses to poor starts by the Yankee starting pitchers beyond Cole, but as this team leaves their early season troubles from the beginning of April behind, they end the first month of baseball by starting to play better ball games and it has overflowed into the early days of May.
For the first time this season, the Yanks actually got to climb towards the top of the A.L. East division, as they are coming off a Monday off day to start the month of May, after manager Aaron Boone and his team managed to experience the glory of sweeping an opponent for the first time in the new 2021 calendar year.
That's right, the Yanks climbed all the way from last place in their division by sweeping the Detroit Tigers at Yankees Stadium and they are now sitting at a .500 pct in third place of the American League East division.
The pinstriped ball club is coming off an off day and are ready to compete against their American League West rival, the Houston Astros, as the two baseball squad are looking to get to the number one spot in each of their division standings. With Corey Kluber coming off his 100th career win in his last outing and the Yankee starting rotation outside of ace Gerrit Cole, finally turning things around, the team is finally looking like they are just about ready to stay on track to go on a spree.
So with Houston and the Yanks finding themselves on the winning trend as of late, the two A.L. foes will clash at Yankees Stadium to start a three game series. Tonight, game 1 will feature a battle of right handed starters on the mound. As the visiting team, the Astros will send Zack Greinke to the pitcher's hill to face a Yankee offense that features a red hot Giancarlo Stanton. Greinke is coming off his shortest outing of the year, as he pitched a four-inning outing against the Mariners in which he did give up four earned runs. Along with that, there is great news for Aaron Boone and his team because the veteran pitcher doesn't have a great track record against the Yankees, as the Houston pitcher owns a 5.05 ERA in 15 career games (12 starts) against them.
Yankee fans will have something to tune in for as the Yankee batters are starting to click on all cylinders.
Boone will counter Greinke with Domingo German. German is a sharp seven innings of work in his last outing in Baltimore where he picked up his second victory in as many starts. The righty is 0-1 with an ERA of 3.86 in three career appearances against the Astros
