The New York Yankees are back home after an eight game road trip that split between Cleveland and Baltimore. It was somewhat of a productive road trip as the Yanks took 3-out-of-4 against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The Yanks then went to Oriole Park to square off against the Baltimore Orioles and took 2-games out of a 4-game set at Oriole Park.
Aaron Boone and his baseball squad return back home to Yankee Stadium sitting towards the bottom of the A.L East with an 11-14 record and they are 4.5-games back out of their division. This evening, the Yankees will open a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Game one of the series between the two rival teams will feature a lefty-righty starting pitching duel on the mound that will begin at 7:05 P.M this evening.
Aaron Boone will hand the baseball to the Yankees' ace and his personal Kyle Higashioka. That's right, fans will once again get to see the Cole-Higgy tandem at Yankees Stadium. Gerrit Cole and Kyle Higashioka were last at work against the A.L Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber on Saturday. The hurling Yankee ace and his personal catcher managed to outduel Bieber by accumulating a total of 11 strikeouts against Cleveland's batters over a span of seven innings. The Yankee ace will now continue his dominance since putting on the pinstripes against the Tigers, a team in which Cole has faced twice this spring and gave up three runs on six hits with six total strikeouts.
On the opposition, Tigers' manager A.J. Hinch will counter by sending a lefty to the mound to square off against the Yankee ace. LHP Tarik Skubal has found success using his splitter during his 2 2/3-innings of piggyback outing on Sunday and also had a tick up on his fastball velocity as well. The Yankee bats better continue progressing at an upward trend because the offense will have to put runs on the scoreboard to match the efforts of the Cole-Higgy tandem, as the Friday matinee could mark Skubal's first road victory of his young career.
