The New York Yankees are heating up and are slowly, but surely working their way back to being a force to be reckoned with. After a slow and horrendous start to the 2021 season, the Yanks get things going at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
It certainly felt like deja vu, with the Bombers went down 3-0 in the first inning again to the Cleveland Indians on Friday night in a half-frame from Jordan Montgomery. With Monty/ Gumby in early trouble, getting his pitch count up to 31, the Yanks had to find a way to turn the page on their losing ways quickly.
What better way to do exactly that than having a struggling offense wake up to come the aid of a struggling starter for a second night in a row?
After the Yankees' batting order showed signs that they were working their way back to being the offensive juggernaut squad that everyone knows that they could be in game one against Cleveland, it wasn't just a fluke because they did it again in game 2.
After Cleveland put a 3 spot on the board in the first inning, switch-hitting Aaron Hicks continued his offensive productivity from the right side of the plate. He got the Yanks on the board with a solo shot. Well, while Boone is trying to get Hicks to produce from the left side, there is no hiding that he is an offensive force from the right side in the batter's box.
Power is power. Manager Aaron Boone just might have to face the fact that he will have to eventually bat Hicks from right side against left handed pitchers. Indians starter Logan Allen gave up some hard contact in the first inning but eventually escaped. Unfortunately, before escaping, he suffered some devastating blows that came off the bats of the Yankee bats. After throwing a hanger to Hicks, you would think that Allen had learned his lesson, but he made the same mistake against Rougned Odor. Odor just connected with Allen's hanger to bash his second homer as a Yankee on a 1-2 count to tie up the game.
Roughie added a bat flip as he left the batter's box to round the bases to complete his home run trip back to the visiting dugout at Progressive Field. The Yankees were on their way. If you missed it, there was not point for Jorge Luplow to even attempt to field the ball in the outfield, there was no chance for him to get it back before it landed in the seats.
Allen didn't get a chance to make sense of what the Yankees just did to him because Giancarlo Stanton joined the party by clobbering a 118 foot home run of his own. Allen tried to sneak a fastball by the Yankee slugger, but Stanton had another idea and got the best of Allen.
After Stanton's paramount laser landed into the bleachers, the Yankees gained the lead. It also went down in the team's record books as the first season that the squad hit 3- homer runs in a game. Talk about historic, because the Yankee organization hasn't had a team done that since 1989.
Oh...wait, you thought they were done!?!
Stanton added another homer in the 5th to make it four total homers in the game.
It was a sight to see, one that Yankee fans have been waiting for since 2021 got underway. Can Giancarlo Stanton and the rest of the Yankees' offense keep it going to actually get a winning streak going behind the Yankee starters and the elite backend of the bullpen?
